What are they?
A virtual consultation enables you as the practice and provider a way to consult existing or new patients via video conferencing using the technology of your choice. You will send them a secure link that you will both join at your designated time. The patient may join via smartphone or computer device.
They can save me time AND money!?
There are many benefits for offering virtual consultations in your practice which include saving you and your practice valuable time and money. Why? Here are some positive factors:
- During COVID-19 waiting room limitations on capacity can greatly affect the number of patients you can let through your door. Virtual Consultations allow you to see more patients, and abide by any restrictions that may be placed on your office.
- You are able to check-in with your patients more frequently and in less time. This more frequent face to face interaction with your patients not only provides a safe and easy way to check in with your patients but is proven to raise customer retention as it gives a personal touch
- Fewer Cancellations. This is a hassle-free way for patients to make their appointments, with no excuse for traffic, etc.
- Flexibility for both the patient and provider. As the provider, you have the option of providing your own schedule on a weekly basis, and the ability to accommodate patients who may want to speak to you on special hours.
Should I charge for this!?
We recommend adding a non-refundable small fee (avg. $50-$100). Remember to choose a discounted option if you have a new patient fee as this adds an incentive for the patient to choose the Virtual Consult route. This shows that the patient is serious, and will show up for their Virtual Consultation. The fee can go towards their service as a credit if you choose as an incentive. We also recommend giving away free virtual consultations for special occasions to add a sense of urgency to patients who have been wanting to see what your practice has to offer!
How do I set this up?
Remember, ease of use and video quality is crucial. The patient should be focused on their consultation, and not how to join it. Make sure to check out our Virtual Consultation Patient Guide, located on our member resource page. With this, you have the ability to customize and send out this to your patients before each VC. For the provider, we have also included a Best Provider Practices for Virtual Consultations Guide.
Is it safe?
As a medical provider, it is a serious concern that both patients and you the provider must feel confident that the session is private and secure. Doctor-patient confidentiality is crucial to allow patients to discuss concerns as if they were doing this in person. We have researched the best Virtual Consultation systems for medical practices, and this list is available on our client resource page: Recommended Virtual Consultation Platforms.
